Reaction to Fortune’s Lex Luthor Article

This reads more like notes as I read the article & I like that format.  If you follow me on twitter (@knowngoodgeek) you will already know some of these discussion points.  I have been out of the country for 2 weeks, but I did not see any of the usual suspects of fandom sites talking about this article & there is a TON of information! Like 5 articles worth. Here are my rambling thoughts on Fortune’s Lex Luthor article.

LexCorp Banner

  • The title of the Article: Lex Luthor Jr.: Not Just His Father’s LexCorp. This is the first time we have seen this character with his Junior suffix mentioned. Strongly suggesting to younger fans ‘this is not your father’s Lex Luthor’.
  • Using a word like ‘superhuman’ in the first paragraph immediately puts the readers to comparing this obvious young human genius to the alien Superman.
  • Describing the work place of Lex Corp like we imagine Google or Apple to be, laid back & a nice environment to create the ‘next best thing’.
  • The use of ‘baby-faced’, ‘wunderkind’ & describing his father’s business as a dinosaur all exemplifies fact that this guy is a genius & only 31 years old.
  • Lex’s birth was unexpected (I bet he never knew his mother or she died early), Lex doesn’t praise his father in the interview, calling him only a ‘good businessman’.
  • Lex was 15 when his father died mysteriously.
  • Senior & Lex Corp have many enemies who call his methods ‘vicious’
  • Lex Luthor has a collection of meteorite crystals. Want to bet one of them is kryptonite? If they are out on display then it would be easy for Batman to steal or take a sample of them.
  • Lex states that he ‘would hate to see the government, in the guise of protector & have absolute control over its citizens’. Truly is he talking about a government or one single person?
  • Youngest named Fortune Businessperson of the Year & included on magazine’s list of World’s 50 Greatest Leaders. Bruce Wayne would have never gotten that title cause he had to fake his playboy ways to push suspicion away from him being Batman.
  • LexCorp 2nd largest emerging technology corporation in world next to Wayne Enterprises. (Already seeing a rivalry forming between these two men before the next few paragraphs were read).
  • LexCorp goes where Wayne Enterprises fears to tread: military contracts (I hear a ominous dun dun dun, after reading that statement, also Stark Industry similarities are blatant).
  • I will not quote the entire next paragraph you can read the article but damn it is blatant he is talking about specific person here. They use terms like ‘speeding bullet’ ‘world-changing crisis’ & ‘We have to be ready to defend ourselves.’
  • Obviously this article is written by someone who was either paid well by LexCorp or really likes him. Outliers only call him a ‘war monger’. I would like the opinion of say a Lois Lane or a Clark Kent on that subject.
  • The author of the article calls him a ‘giver’.  LexCorp is 3rd after Kord Industries (BLUE BEETLE MOVIE CONFIRMED!)  and Wayne Enterprises in charitable companies.  Leading the way for Lex to be a presidential candidate…
  • “It’s not a competition,” laughs Luthor. “Besides, I can’t hold a candle to those guys in the debauched billionaire playboy department!”–Seriously I love you DC Entertainment…
  • I have to quote this cause it is blatant play on our own politicians of a certain unmentionable party. “Handouts don’t change the world.” quote doesn’t stop there…
  • ‘True gift of LexCorp is our products.” What? Metallo? Brainiac? Your suit which will make everyone call you an Iron man rip off in green & purple paint? WHAT is the product?
  • “We are on the cusp of unveiling a technology that will change the world forever.” I’m writing this before the rumored tv spots on Monday October 26th, 2015. I personally think/hope that perhaps the tv spots are commercials for this new product from LexCorp & that we will see more info on Lex & what/who will be the big bad for the film. Why because the Alexander Luthor twitter account (@alexanderluthor ) hinted something happening this weekend…
  • “Its about safety.” Metallo, Brainiac, or Brother eye? “This is a product that will protect you.”
  • “But there are a lot of threats out there, and they’re here today.” Another blatant remark on Superman roaming the earth unchecked.
  • I wish there was a by-line, but there isn’t.  I would love a reaction article from Clark or Lois, but I’m not sure how far DC PR is going to take this social media, using something other then trailers & photos, to promote this film.

This article has done its duty for me, it has gotten me very interested in this ‘new’ Lex Luthor. I am intrigued to see the interaction between Bruce Wayne & Lex Luthor as well as Lex & Superman and Lex & Clark Kent.  I do not think he will have any interaction with Batman though he may mention him after the rumored Batman breaks into LexCorp scene.  Over all I thought it was a very good way to introduce the audience to this new Lex with out having to release another trailer or show more of the film.  I’m personally happy with more of these types of entertaining advertisements for films. This is much more interesting & more connected to the source material, the Comic Book.
